The Importance of Continuing Your Registered Nurse Education
Even if you have completed all the necessary schooling required to become a nurse, passed your State Board of Nursing RN exam and received your degree as a practicing registered nurse, there is still more to learn. You might think you know all there is to know about nursing, but things change every day. It is crucial to continue your registered nurse education and take what you might call registered nurse refresher courses to keep your skills and knowledge sharp and teach you about any new developments in the field.

You can usually get continuing education from the same educational facility where you obtained your nursing degree. There are also community colleges, vocational schools and even work seminars where you can expand your skills and freshen up on things you already know. As a nurse, you hold lives in your hands and it is so important to stay on top of your game. These registered nurse refresher courses do wonders for your confidence at work and reinforce what you learned as a student. Some courses may be mandatory by your employer, while others may be independently pursued. The more you learn, the more you are able to add to your resume.
Many registered nurses decide to take their education even further and pursue their nurse practitioner license. Nurse practitioners are able to prescribe medications just as a doctor can and often see patients in lieu of a physician. You can become a nurse practitioner by taking the proper courses at nursing school, or even completing some of your coursework at home online with distance learning. It's an even longer road to become a nurse practitioner, but many RNs decide to do it. With this new job title comes more responsibility, and of course higher pay. Nurse practitioners work at hospitals and doctor's offices everywhere.
Whether you just want to brush up on your job skills or have the desire to further your education and your position at work, registered nurse education is always a good idea. These classes are often scheduled at times convenient for working nurses. For example there may be both day and evening classes available so everyone can attend whether they work days or nights. This is certainly an advantage appealing to working adults.
